Carmaine Means, Founder

You’ve seen her work in households all over the world. Carmaine has excelled in her craft as a Cinematographer and Director of Photography throughout the duration of her 24-year career. Many of the most-watched events and programs in national news and sports, including Democratic National Convention Coverage, Presidential Election Coverage, Covid-19 hospitalization coverage, and the Racial Justice Movement. In sports Cubs World Series, the NBA Finals, NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments are covered.


Following her move to CNN in June 2020, she continued to strive for excellence. Carmaine’s exceptional cinematography has earned her multiple Emmy Awards for projects such as CNN's 4th of July Special and Chasing Life with Sanjay Gupta, and The Havana Syndrome. She was handpicked by Special Projects, Production Management Team to continue as one of their Director of Photography roles throughout their highly regarded series, Champions For Change. She held that term for three consecutive years before passing the baton to her other colleagues. 


Carmaine also prides herself on keeping herself up to date with the latest technologies in her craft. She is a pioneer in using sUAS technology to advance her skills in cinematic sciences. She holds the distinction of being the first African American female licensed Part 107 drone pilot in the United States in 2016. In that same year, she created a drone culture and live broadcasting feeds for CBS News, which is still in place today. 


In addition to her hosting roles, Carmaine is working on several documentary projects an including the history of the Black Firefighters in the City of Chicago and the Reduction of gun violence, which will be the first of many impactful documentaries to be filmed by her production company DGP Creative. She is also working on several other projects that lean into today’s journalism model of podcast productions. 


A proud graduate of Columbia, Carmaine is a graduate of the College of Television and Film Department. She is planning to pursue her MBA at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. One of her proudest moments was when Carmaine became the first to graduate from college on her paternal side of her family.
